The National Custom & Self Build Association (NaCSBA) has announced that it has appointed Richard Bacon to its executive committee, with Bacon also agreeing to take on the role of Chair.
The former MP has long been a champion of both self- and custom-build in the UK. During his time in Parliament he led an independent review – known as ‘The Bacon Review’ – into the scaling up of self- and custom-build, commissioned by then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
He also founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Self-Build, Custom and Community Housebuilding and Place-Making, helping push a Private Member’s Bill through Parliament which became the Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015.
His appointment marks “an important moment” for NaCSBA, and reflects Bacon’s commitment to the sector. His passion and understanding of the subject, along with his connections, will be “a huge asset to NaCSBA,” the association comments.
Bacon’s leadership will help NaCSBA in their mission to make self-build more attainable for those across the UK who want to design and build their own home. The association says it “welcomes the opportunity to work with him” as it looks to “build on momentum” and “champion greater choice in UK housing.”
