Sliding doors
Best for: Larger openings and maximising the view out
IDSystems product: theEDGE2.0 or Grand Slider II
Sliding doors have become the go-to product for the majority of self-build projects over the past 5 years, because their large panes of glass and minimal frames are perfectly suited for larger openings – creating almost uninterrupted views out when the doors are closed to breakdown the boundaries between inside and out.
Best for: Smaller openings and completely opening up an aperture
IDSystems product: SUNFLEX SF75eco
Whilst bifold doors installations have reduced as sliding doors have grown in popularity, their ability to open up the aperture to provide a seamless connection out on to the patio means the will always be an option worth considering – particularly for smaller openings where giving up part of it to accommodate a sliding door fixed frame would be too much of a compromise.
IDSystems product: vistaline
Slide & turn doors are somewhat of the new-comer when it comes to door systems, but with narrow frames (like sliding doors) and the ability to slide the independent, non-connected panels to one end to completely open up an aperture (like bifold doors) they have quickly become a hugely popular option for those wanting the best of both worlds.
