Ecological Building Systems is renowned for supplying a variety of natural materials to optimise building performance and durability. Over the last few years, the business has grown significantly through supplying innovative, sustainable, high quality ecological building materials, backed up by expert advice and product training.

Neil Turner, Ecological Building Systems’ Technical Specification Advisor (CEPHC UK), explains: “By having a presence at the NSBRC, we’re making it even easier for those who are looking to build or renovate a house to the highest standards of sustainability or to Passive House standards, to find products and systems to meet their requirements.”

He adds: “By speaking to one of our technical experts at the earliest stages of the project, customers can make the right choices from the start, which saves them time and money overall.  Self-builders are welcome, as are architects who can bring their clients, so they can see on our stand the complete sustainable solution for their project.”

“Our fabric first approach means we really do offer the most comprehensive whole house sustainable building solutions that have undergone rigorous, independent assessment. We have a wide range of solutions from natural insulation, ventilation, sound proofing, wind and airtightness … all in one place.”

Ecological Building Systems is currently displaying its Passive EcoWall® and Retro EcoWall® systems at the NSBRC.  Both these systems include insulation that promotes breathability and manages moisture.

Passive EcoWall® is ideally suited to new build timber frame Passive House projects, by combining a low energy construction with more sustainable building materials, with lower, or even negative carbon emissions.

The Ecological Building Systems’ stand also allows visitors to see the complete sustainable housing solution on offer, including air-and-windtight membranes, tapes and sealants, de-centralised ventilation with heat recovery systems, plus woodfibre insulation boards and sustainable renovation materials such as cork and lime thermal plaster.

Ecological Building Systems was established to help self-builders, home renovators and construction professionals to achieve ‘Better Building’ by adopting a ‘Fabric First’ approach to design, using more natural materials to optimise building performance and durability.

The company researches, stocks, and supplies high-performance sustainable products with unrivalled technical support. Although Ecological Building Systems does not provide installation, the company does offer comprehensive training on all the products supplied.

Ecological Building Systems was set up in County Meath, Ireland in 2000, the UK division was established in 2007 and is based near Carlisle in Cumbria.  Ecological’s parent company is MacCann & Byrne, a family-owned company steeped in history having been established on the same premises in Athboy since 1906.
