Householders in and around Brighton who are thinking about improving the comfort and energy performance of their homes will have the opportunity to learn from real renovation experiences at a free community event taking place on Wednesday, 18th March at 6.30pm.
The event will be held at the Brighton Friends Meeting House and is being organised by members of the local network of the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB). The evening is designed to bring together householders who are curious about renovation with people who have already gone through the process and are willing to share what they learned along the way.
Rather than focusing purely on theory, the session will centre on real experiences of renovating and upgrading homes. Speakers will discuss the challenges they faced, the decisions they made, and what they might approach differently if starting again.
For many householders considering improvements such as insulation or energy upgrades, hearing these stories can provide valuable insight before beginning their own projects.
The evening will also include practical discussion about improving the performance of existing homes, with particular focus on insulation strategies and approaches that can help reduce energy demand while creating healthier, more comfortable living spaces.
Robin Hiller, Technical Specification Advisor at Ecological Building Systems and a member of the Association for Environment Conscious Building community in Brighton, will also contribute to the discussion during the evening.
Robin said: “Many householders want to improve their homes but are unsure where to start. Hearing directly from people who have already carried out renovation projects can make a huge difference. It helps others understand both the opportunities and the challenges involved, and shows that improving an existing home is often more achievable than people expect.”
Community events such as this play an important role in helping homeowners understand how existing buildings can be upgraded to improve comfort, reduce energy use and extend the life of the building fabric.
The evening is open to anyone living in or around Brighton who is interested in learning more about home renovation or retrofit. Attendance is free, but places must be reserved in advance.
The event is supported by Ecological Building Systems and Ecotecture, two organisations working to support better performing homes through knowledge sharing and practical solutions.
Refreshments and light snacks will also be available during the evening, kindly provided by Ecotecture.
