If you’re looking for a great way to transform a rundown building into a stylish new property, take inspiration from these stunning makeovers. From turning a 200-year-old barn house into a contemporary shooting lodge and a dilapidated 1900’s bungalow into a countryside home with wow-factor, find out how Cedral helped these homeowners achieve their dreams.
A shooting lodge renovation in Wales
Its serious state of disrepair, including uneven walls and floors, made a rundown barn house a difficult renovation prospect. Its setting in the natural Welsh countryside also posed a potential planning issue.
Cedral Lap fibre cement cladding in soft grey provided the ideal solution, creating nature-inspired visual appeal and blending beautifully with the natural landscape, while protecting and transforming the original building. The low maintenance benefits of Cedral were also important to the new owners, who renovated the historic property into an 8-bedroom holiday lodge, housing up to 20 guests.
Mark Aveyard, Managing Director of Neath Dry Lining who led the renovation, said:
“We specified Cedral Lap fibre cement boards due to their significant durability, as we wanted to use materials that would protect such an old building whilst being visually sensitive to the landscape.
“The grey colour scheme perfectly reflects the rural feel of the landscape, peacefully overlooking the Welsh mountains. The boards were installed in a traditional clapper board effect to create an aesthetic that represents the traditional previous building and the new, modern building.”
A barn-style makeover in Kent
A cream rendered bungalow that had turned green and was harbouring a multitude of cracks led the Taylor family to turn down the property on first viewing. But after researching the cladding market, they decided that Cedral would be the perfect way to transform it into their dream home.
Impressed with the cladding’s grain, texture, realistic wood effect and minimum life expectancy of 50 years, they used it to style a barn-effect home that blended beautifully with its rural setting in 16 acres of woodland and paddocks. The low maintenance aspect was also a key consideration in making the Cedral choice.
Amy Taylor said:
“Cedral has helped us to transform the look of the main building and annex, allowing us to turn something so unappealing and run down into a beautiful home. We also hope it has added substantial value to the property, not only looks-wise but also in terms of adding extra insulation, which is also good for the EPC rating.
“I would recommend Cedral 100 per cent. It’s not just about the longevity and insulation – though that’s important of course – it’s also about the end result and kerb appeal. We never looked at the property before we bought it and said, that’s our dream house. But now it really is.”
