Overlooked home spots that need more cleaning

The weather is getting warmer, and the spring-cleaning season is just around the corner. Most of us know the basics of cleaning a home, like changing the bedsheets, bleaching the toilet and wiping down countertops. However, some overlooked spots don’t get nearly enough attention in our daily lives.

Before you start cleaning, make sure you have the cleaning essentials.

A basic disinfectant spray is an essential item even in the messiest of households. Multi-surface cleaners come in all sorts of scents and colours. Keep one in your kitchen and bathroom so you can quickly wipe down the surfaces when you get a chance.

Make sure to invest in some disposable gloves to protect your manicure and skin from any chemicals.

Microfibre cloths are also perfect for quick cleaning. Just dampen them with water and wipe away. It would help if you also had a basic mop with a cleaning sponge head to simultaneously wipe and dry your floors. Genius!

The most overlooked spots in your home

When it comes to cleaning our homes, we often overlook the high-traffic areas. Doorknobs, light switches and TV remotes are bacteria breeding grounds, and yet, we rarely wipe them down with some disinfectant. The chances are everyone who comes into your home will touch these appliances at some point. Make sure to disinfect them and eliminate the germs living there. Yuck!

Air vents can be one of the grossest places in a home. Vents can become full of dust and allergens, which are then re-circulated around your home. Fortunately, they can be easily unscrewed and wiped down or vacuumed. HVAC systems should be changed every three months and wiped down in between.

Home cleaners commonly overlook the bin and the wall behind the bin. It is a filthy and smelly environment that needs to be disinfected and scrubbed to prevent build-up. Think about all of the meat juices, rotten vegetables and gross bacteria that gets splashed behind the bin.

Did you know you need to clean your washing machine? Your freshly washed clothes will start smelling damp and a bit mildewy if you don’t clean your device. Run a maintenance wash with nothing in the machine, and make sure to wipe down the drum and door to get rid of any mould.

Finally, put your toothbrush holder in your dishwasher. Between excess toothpaste and salvia-infested water – your toothbrush holder can get very grimy. Wash with hot water and soap if you don’t have a dishwasher at home.

We hope we’ve helped you realise which spots might need more cleaning. If you think we’ve missed some, please let us know in the comments!
