Safe as houses: The Northern Homebuilding & Renovating Show strengthens optimism in the construction industry

Challenges facing the British property market as a result of Brexit uncertainty were curbed at the Northern Homebuilding & Renovating Show between 1-3 November at Harrogate Convention Centre, which delivered its most successful event to date by welcoming record-breaking numbers on Friday and Sunday and witnessing the average project value increase from £118k to £122.6k.

Driven by the desire to fulfil a wider range of interests and keep up with a major sporting landmark, the event also offered an exciting opportunity for both exhibitors and visitors to experience the action and atmosphere of the Rugby World Cup Final on a big screen in the Royal Hall just before the show doors opened on Saturday.

With a total visitor figure of 12,483, the event is already enjoying strong exhibitor rebooking figures. High demand for space affirms that suppliers of products and services remain resolute and determined in pursuing opportunities within the construction market despite prospective political outcomes.

This optimism was further demonstrated through the ambitions of home improvers and self-builders themselves, with over 79 per cent of visitors anticipating a live project being underway within the next 12 months and each visitor spending an average of 3.13 hours at the event. Those attending were looking to enhance their knowledge and skills on everything from finding and buying a building plot and creating a brief, to planning and project management; as a result, the show theatres were busy and in-demand.

The event also attracted 18 per cent of visitors from the trade industry, marking a two per cent increase on last year’s regional show. In addition, internal figures highlighted a gender breakdown of show visitors as fairly evenly split between men (53 per cent) and women (47 per cent), while the average household income was £65,000.

Nick Noble, commercial & events director at Future Plc, says: ‘Our growth in visitor figures in Harrogate has driven additional trade and consumer interest towards the opportunity we’re presenting. Through our shows, we’re linking the appetite from consumers who see their homes as their primary asset with a highly targeted exhibitor database.

‘We offer visitors access to products and services that are not available elsewhere, and they can obtain free, invaluable advice from a wide range of experts. We’re confident that 2020 will exceed our expectations again as, at this early stage, exhibitor bookings are at their highest to date.’

The Homebuilding & Renovating Show has a calendar of events spanning the UK in 2020 as the show will also be visiting Farnborough from 18-19 January, Birmingham from 26-29 March, Surrey from 27-28 June, Glasgow from 1-2 June, London from 25-27 September, Edinburgh from 17-18 October, Harrogate from 6-8 November and Somerset from 21-22 November. For those who are planning next year’s schedule and are aiming to interact with an audience serious about its self-build and renovation ventures, space on the floor is still available.
