A Brentwood-based architectural practice overcame a challenging brief to deliver a full refurbishment, loft conversion and extension of a local home.
Spatial Design Architects were commissioned by a private client to create a contrasting design with the house’s brick facade and connect the basement with the garden via a staircase.
Insufficient space indoors meant the architects had to place the stairs outside, under a specially-designed glass box on the extension roof.
Project architect Brendon Robins explained:
“In spite of many planning conditions placed on its approval and design, we feel that we found innovative ways to overcome all these while delivering the space required. ‘Wow, it was definitely worth it!’ is how our client summed up this project.”
Spatial Design Architects specialise in contemporary, sustainable and hybrid architecture within the urban or countryside environment. Their vision to “blur the divide between the internal and external spaces”.
